Over all Review of Sony CyberShot DSC-WX150 Point & Shoot
Sony CyberShot DSC WX150 is a well poised Point and Shoot device that works on a ½.3 inches 18.2MP Exmor CMOS sensor. It has a unique quality attached to it that is, it sports a 10x optical zoom lens bundled with a 10x digitised zoom to make the maximum zoom at 20x. The device also sports a high speed AutoFocus and gives some stunning pictures, which enable continuous shooting to remain up to 10 frames per second. Sony CyberShot DSC WX150 combines Face detection with Face Priority AF to detect as much as 8 faces in a frame. Furthermore, in what could be its headline specification, Sony CyberShot WX150 has the capabilities to record Full HD 1080p videos at 60i while taking photos concurrently.
Almost the entire rear of the camera is covered by a 3 inches LCD screen that comes with features such as 3D still image feature and Panorama feature. Also, there is the ISCN feature in the device, in full Intelligent Scene Recognition mode, that can distinguish 33 different types of scenes in the device. There are some rather amazing features left out to discuss such as Background Defocus, Smile Shutter, Natural Flash, Anti-blink flash, soft skin mode, Motion detection, etc., which quite certainly make the device one of the best mid range Point and Shoot cameras around.
Design and Build Quality
The exact dimensions of Sony CyberShot DSC WX150 measure 92.3mm x 52.4mm x 21.6mm, and thus make it quite evident that the camera is highly compact and can fit in your palm effortlessly, and can become a very efficient travel zoom device. The weight of Sony CyberShot DSC WX150 is merely 133 grams with battery and memory card included. That been said, it feels tremendously light too. As such, the camera is very handy and looks very user friendly too. Available in the color combinations of Black, Silver, Red and Blue, it looks like some kind of an ideal Point and Shoot device. The front of the camera is stylised by the lens and flash while as mentioned before, ergonomically, the entire back of the camera is dominated by the 3 inches LCD screen alongside a few buttons here and there.
Focus and Face Detection
Being a mid level Point and Shoot device, Sony CyberShot DSC WX150 is provided with a proper AF system that has a total of 9 focus points. There are 3 modes that the camera works on:
1. Full Frame
2. Spot Focus
Due to the availability of CMOS sensor and BIONZ processor, focussing is done rather quickly and precisely in almost all possible lighting conditions. The tracking of AD can be done only manually with the help of a dedicated switch on the camera. The Face detection technology is also present on the device, with which as much as 8 individual faces can be detected in a single frame by the camera. With this, we are also able to modify the exposure modes, white balance and focus to their absolute best for some really amazing photographs.
Lens and Image Stabilization
Sony CyberShot DSC WX150 as mentioned earlier comes with a 10x digital zoom and with a technology that Sony proudly calls the Pixel Super Resolution process wherein, the camera can add up to an additional 10x optical zoom range. Thus, it permits 18.2MP full resolution pictures to be taken and making the zoom range to be a total of 20x. Now, with the expansion of zoom, it is important to note that the quality of the device is not compromised at all. The 10x zoom obviously covers a range of 25mm at wide angle to 250mm at telephoto at 35mm equivalent. This is without the additional 10x zoom, and in itself is pretty above average and hence, will be very easy to capture photos of much larger landscapes or much higher zoomed in telephoto pictures.
Compared to its rivals, the lens is not the one we would pick to be the best in class, say for example - Nikon P310 has an f/1.8 wide aperture that drops directly down to f/4.9 when zoomed up. However, the aperture range offered by Sony CyberShot DSC WX150 is f/3.3 and f/5.9 at full telephoto. The camera dwells on the Optical Steady Shot along with Active Mode, and with these two features given in the camera, the device only looks within to end the blurs and haziness from the pictures.
Screen and Menus
Sony Cybershot DSC WX150 has a 3 inches wide LCD monitor on the back, which is bright enough for easy viewing but may pose problems in sunlight. However, the brighter side is that this brightness is adjustable with the easy menu option. A new and intriguing feature is the ‘Sweep Multi Angle’ which uses the LCD to give you 3D like image view by taking as many as 15 images from different angles to project to you a live replica. Sony CyberShot DSC WX150 uses its Gyro sensor to detect motion and assists in this 3D image viewing. The menu interface is user friendly with a pop up window appearing on the screen on pressing the dedicated button. The camera has a very basic way to adjust options and go through different settings, and not at all a challenge to amateurs.
Sony Cybershot DSC WX150 works on a Li-ion battery that runs for as many as 240 shots and can be charged either by a USB cable or by using the AC adapter.
Sony CyberShot DSC WX150 is a pocketable camera with Full HD video shooting ability. The camera shoots with full high definition at a resolution of 60i and delivers clear and bright videos with a high definition and impressive 1080 pixels recording. The recording is smooth and when coupled with the excellent image stabilisation feature, it gives a perfect video. The camera has a high frame rate and its high definition gives a good clarity when synced to a HDTV. Sony CyberShot DSC WX150 has an interesting feature of dual recording that allows you to take videos and pictures at the same time. For greater definition, there is an option of optical zoom that works during recording. The sound recording is done through the stereo mic.
Sony CyberShot DSC WX150 works on an 18.2MP Exmor CMOS sensor that brings together the 10X Sony G lens to deliver high definition images, which were never so clear! The sensor helps you to shoot noiseless images with a realistic finish. A sensor is a transducer that converts light into recordable signals and delivers your memories as they are. The image quality is such that when you crop, enlarge or edit your image, there is no pixilation.
Sony Cybershot DSC WX150 is ultra compact camera that sports a long zoom range. The lens is sharp in performance and has the feature to record videos while simultaneously taking photos. The high ISO performance is also good.
There are limited physical controls and the edge of the videos may seem a tad blurred on viewing on a HDTV.
