Over all Review of Sony Cybershot DSC-T99

Sony Cybershot DSC-T99 Price

Overall Review

No doubt about the fact that Sony Cybershot DSC-T99 is an utterly stylish digital camera. It has innumerable and funky features with efficient technology. It comprises of a 14.1 Megapixel 1/ 2.3 inch Super HAD CCD image sensor which is remarkable in delivering fine images, this coupled with the BIONZ image processor gives you fast processing features with high quality end result. Modes such as Sweep Panorama highlight the camera’s capabilities. The professional Car Zeiss Vario – Tessar 4X zoom lens present stands out for its 25 mm wide angle, enabling long and far photos to be taken. Other modes include the iAuto i.e. Intelligent Auto where the camera takes over and analysis the scenes, faces and conditions alike to perfect the image, this mode is helped along by other individually important features like Face detection, Optical Steady Shot Image Stabilization, Intelligent Scene Recognition. Here, under the iSCN there are 9 different scenes to pick from which include Macro, Portrait, Landscape etc. Motion detection and Intelligent AF include to the sharpness of the camera. Anti blink feature, self portrait timer and soft skin mode help you bit by bit and all of these mentioned features are especially above anything user friendly. Video making in HD at 720p is granted alongside a pretty clear 3 inch LCD touch screen. The camera works on lithium ion batteries and is budget friendly. If you’re new, you can get your hands on it.

Design and Build Quality

Is sleek, round edged and all metal cased, this is your Sony CyberShot DSC T99 made of. The camera quite compact with its 93.0 (W) x 55.6 (H) x 16.8 (D) mm dimensions and does not give you a headache of being bulky as it weighs a mere 121 gram. So the camera can be tucked in your pocket and be travelled along with just fine. Powering the camera is pretty simple; all you do is raise or lower the lens cover. At its front you will find the lens, the mic, and AF assist/ self timer lamp and your flash while the bottom bears for you the compartment for batteries, memory card and a tripod mount on the bottom. The options lie in the 3 inch LCD touch screen. All you want and need can be reached with your fingertips. The camera is available in Silver, black, green, violet and pink.

Focus and Face Detection

AutoFocusing is duly available in the Sony DSC T99 to a mere 1 cm at wide angle or 50 cm at telephoto, due to this technology in less than 0.3 seconds can you lock focus an capture any moment. The camera also features a 9 point autofocus system. Other software’s like Close focus and Macro take super close photos allowing you to witness the focusing capabilities of the camera. Also included is the Face detection feature which can differentiate between a child and adult and detect as many as 8 faces in a particular scene. With Motion detection next to face detection the pictures come not only still but blur free and perfect as it adjusts for you the ISO sensitivity and toggles shutter speed. The detection features don’t end here, the Smile shutter is capable of automatically clicking pictures when seen to target a smiled face. The Anti-blink and blink-warning features both accompany greatly as well.

Lens and Image Stabilization

Instilled with the Carl Zeiss Vario – Tessar high performance lens, the camera has a focal length of 4.43 – 177 mm and starts with a 25 mm (35 equivalent) wide angle to a decent 100mm at telephoto. The lens can optically zoom 4X and 4.7x digitally bringing forth subjects close for you for pictures and videos alike. The generous wide angle will not give you the edge to capture large landscape shots but group photographs. Infact the Close Focus takes a ½ inch away shot from the desired subject! And in Macro mode objects as close as 1 cm can be captured. Present is the Optical SteadyShot image stabilization that tackles for you blurs specifically caused by camera shakes thus protecting your images. The built-in gyro sensor detects shake and so shifts the lens to work with the photographers hand movement.

Screen and Menus

The camera cherishes a 3.0 inch 230k dot Clear photo LCD touch screen. Most of the functions are available via this only, also previewing is done through this. The screen is very intuitive, responsive and most importantly very easy to navigate through. A simple one touch menu access , there are present gutters on each sides of the camera and also if you require a full screen to take shots you are required to do so in a wide screen aspect ratio which does drop to 11 MP resolution. But apart from that many modes are accessible through taps and slides; one so action done through the icon on the upper left which opens the many shooting modes and accesses your Toolbox. The text is easy to read and icons are eye friendly. In easy mode the font is enlarged which is a pleaser for new users to hassle less. In detection feature a simple touch via the screen on the subjects face works.

Battery

Sony Cyber Shot DSC t99 is powered by lithium ion batteries. This is great as batteries are readily available and changeable. Capable of shooting up to 115 minutes or approximately 230 images the camera can certainly be a good buddy for your photographing needs.

Video Mode

Sony Cyber Shot DSC T99 comes with the power to shoot detailed high definition movies using the MP4 hence the most compatible to the PC format. It records 1,280 x 720 pixel videos at 30 frames per second. For the present HD it records in two different aspect rations of 4:3 and 16: 9. Full optical zoom is available during the video shoot and the shutter release button is dedicated to start recording movies.

Sensors

Sony CyberShot DSC T99 comes with a 14.1 Megapixel 1/2.3 inch Super HAD CCD image sensor which is remarkable in delivering fine images, this coupled with the BIONZ image processor gives you fast processing features with high quality end result.

Pros

The camera’s first appeal comes from its good looks. Another it’s filled and able features. It’s cheap and is ideal for first buyers.

Cons

The camera’s touch interface is a bit shabby and a bit of shadiness in pictures at low lit environment.
