Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H90 Point & Shoot Price

Overall Review

Available in black and white color, the Sony CyberShot DSC H90 is a compact high-zoom camera that boasts with 16.1MP lens coupled with Super HAD CCD sensor which works with Sony’s BIONZ imaging processor to deliver finer image quality. The 16x Optical zoom gives you the freedom to explore all your creativity with 4 Picture Effects and with the 360 Degrees Sweep Panorama feature, no single corner of the room can escape from being shot. Shooting the moving objects was never so easy before, as Sony CyberShot DSC H90 camera comes with Optical Steady Shot feature that allows you to shoot with ease without bothering about blurs. Furthermore, the Intelligent Auto mode IA always makes you free from the manual tunings and settings; it automatically determines the best settings for the scene and ensures bright, clear and crispy images regardless of the outside environment. The 3-inch 460,800 dots Clear Photo TFT LCD is enabled with 5 steps brightness so that you keep appreciating the visuals every time you see your images and videos. Weighting just 222g, this CyberShot DSC H90 offers you wide range of options and menus to mess with your photos or videos and with the optimum price point compared to the feature set; DSC H90 is really a budget friendly piece.

Design and Build Quality

Combining matt and shiny textures, the Sony CyberShot DSC H90 camera has been carved with an intention to give it pro looks in black and white colors. Although, the white color is good, the black color gives it a touch of urbanism and professionalism. The front side of this CyberShot includes Sony G Lens with 16.1MP CCD sensor that offers you 16x Optical zoom and 64x Digital zoom for still image. On the Top, it embraces a mode dial along with some capturing buttons and speaker cavity. The back side has been skillfully equipped with 3inch 460,800 dots Clear Photo TFT LCD screen that aids scene composition and helps you decide the optimal camera settings during the capturing process and also lets you to view recorded pictures and movies with vivid and bright visuals. Whilst we finish discussion with the front and rear, the sides have been well sutured with HDMI and USB ports for seamless data swapping. Optionally, the Sony CyberShot DSC H90 could be mounted on a tripod and thus you can shoot with more of your skills and less hand shakes. Finally, the dimensions 104.7mmX 59.7mm X 33.8mm are roomy enough to include a memory card slot and compact enough to fit in pocket.

Focus and Face Detection

The Sony CyberShot DSC H90 camera comes with Manual and Auto focusing modes as well. The AF mode includes Multi-Point AF, Center-Weighted AF, Spot AF, and Flexible Spot AF that tracks human faces and focus them for achieving bright and clarified shots. The Face Detection feature is capable of detecting multiple faces in a single frame thus allowing you to capture group photos of your friends and family.

Lens and Image Stabilization

As discussed before, the DSC H90 houses a Sony G Lens with 16.1MP CCD sensor that offers you 16x Optical zoom and 64x Digital zoom for capturing every detail of the scene, whether near or far. Wobbly images caused by shaky hands are the cause of disappointing results but with the Optical SteadyShot I.S system you get a built-in gyro sensor that detects camera shake and automatically activates a shift lens unit to compensate for it and within a fraction of seconds beautiful blurfree images are at the door of your eyes. Ofcourse not ignoring the powerful BIONZ image processor, thanks to it for drastically reducing the picture noise level offering high accuracy in auto-focusing, exposure auto-correction and auto white balancing thus creating more natural and vibrant images even in challenging environments.

Screen and Menus

The 3inch large viewfinder - Clear Photo TFT LCD lets you to shoot and preview your work instantly at the cost of few button clicks while the variety of options for editing the images makes Sony CyberShot DSC H90 versatile in accessibility and navigation. The pre-installed Built-in PlayMemories Home Software makes it easy to transfer your videos and images to a PC for viewing, editing, sharing and uploading to the Internet.

Battery

The Sony CyberShot DSC H90 camera operates on NP-BG1 rechargeable battery that allows you to capture up to 290 shots or equivalently 145mins of recording time.

Video Mode

The DSC H90 can incarcerate fine MP4 - 9M Fine (1,280 X 720 / 30fps), MP4 - 6M Standard (1,280 X 720 / 30fps) and MP4 - 3M VGA (640 X 480 / 30fps) movies in 720p HD and consequently you can share them with your friends on the larger HDTV screens via the HDMI port.

Sensors

The powerful Charge Coupled Device abbreviated CCD is the most common type of image sensor that works in the same way as the human eye and consists of thousands of pixels that independently sense red, green and blue light and offers vivid and intensified images working with the BIONZ image processor.

Pros

Firstly, the 16x Optical zoom is the good point to be appreciated. While the 3inch LCD with lot many functions is too worthy being briefed. Compared to the price point, the feature set is above the average list. Moreover, 16.1MP lens and BIONZ image processor creates alluring and gorgeous images while the HDMI port, 720p shooting and powerful O.I.S are amazing features if contrasted with the price point. Finally, the Sony CyberShot DSC H90 camera has been rewarded with light weight and compactness.

Cons

The CCD type sensor is not so powerful compared to modern CMOS sensor. Moreover and obviously, it misses high end functionality such as GPS and WI-FI. The image quality goes degrading as we go above 200 ISO. Other bad sides are missing electronic viewfinder, Touch support lacking in LCD and fixated/ untiltable LCD screen. And for capturing, processing and displaying the results, it takes more time thus increasing the shot-to-shot time interval. Giving a final verdict, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H90 is meant for those wanting a compact 16x zoom lens camera for casual use.

Sony Inc. is known around the world for the “panache” it puts in its products, be it of any type, in the camera world Sony devices are a class apart when it comes to design and build quality. Sony CyberShot DSC H90 is one of the new cameras from Sony as is based around a good 16x optical lens. The default aspect ratio of Sony CyberShot DSC H90 is 4:3, in which it comes across 35mm-equivalent focal lengths from a generous 24mm wide angle to a commanding 384mm telephoto. Maximum aperture falls from f/3.3 at wide angle to a rather low f/5.9 at telephoto. One great addition is that Sony CyberShot H90 includes Sony’s forte Optical Steadyshot image stabilisation, which is definitely very useful in getting off the blur from the shakes of the camera. Sony CyberShot H90's 16.1 megapixel Super HAD CCD image sensor is a 1/2.3-inch type with a oblique of just 7.75 millimeters. Sensitivity range varies from ISO 80 to 3,200 equivalents, although when it comes to movie recording the range is a much narrower 250 to 1,250 equivalents. Sony CyberShot H90 has no space for an optical or electronic viewfinder. As well as the camera is capable of clicking photos, videos can also be shot at HD 720 or 1280 x 720 pixel video recording in MPEG-4 format.  Also accompanying these are some reduced resolution options like standard VGA 640 X 480 pixels, at both the resolutions however movies are captured efficiently at 30 frames per second. Two different stabilization systems are obtainable for video in Sony CyberShot H90, either the standard Optical SteadyShot used for still imaging, or a more powerful Active SteadyShot mode that merges optical and digital stabilization, which leads to a resultant increase in the whole. Both USB 2.0 High speed data and Mini HDMI high definition video connectivity are offered with Sony CyberShot H90. Images and movies are saved in a not-terribly-generous 27MB of built-in memory, or on SD / Memory Stick Duo cards. Supported SD cards have SDHC and SDXC types, while Memory Stick Duo compatibility has PRO Duo and PRO HG Duo types, as well as Micro and Micro Mark 2 cards accompanied by an adaptor.  The powerhouse of this device is NP-BG1 or NP-FG1 lithium ion rechargeable battery pack where the first one comes embedded in the product bundle itself. Sony CyberShot DSC H90 is rated as a good 290 shots on full charge, also with which pack this is determined cannot be said with certainity. Good product, worth buying!!
