The all new point and shoot camera of the V-series is the Olympus VG 140. Available in blue, black and silver, this new compact camera measures 96mm x 56.5mm x 19.3mm and weighs 125grams. It is easily portable and has a metallic body with a stylish yet elegant look. The camera boasts of an in built pop up flash assisted by a shutter speed of ½-1/2000 second. The 14 megapixel Olympus VG 140 has a 5x optical zoom lens which gives a combined zoom of 20x. for a 35mm equivalent, the lens has a focal length of 26mm to 130mm. The camera sports a TTL type autofocus with two autofocus points adjustable to either the centre or face detection mode. The focusing range for the camera in normal setting is 0.6m to infinity in wideangle setting and 1m to infinity in telephoto setting. In macro mode, the near point is 0.2 m in wide angle and 0.6 m in telephoto. To get the best details, in super macro mode the focusing point is as close as 7cm.

The Olympus has launched a yet another V series camera, the Olympus VG 140. The camera, available in blue, silver and black has a full array of advanced features. It comes with a 5x zoom lens with a wide angle of 26 mm and image stabilization in a slim, stylish body. The easy-to-use automatic functions like iAUTO enable even a novice to easily take beautiful pictures, and automatic tracking AF for face detection. The fully metallic body of the camera comes with digital image stabilization to prevent image blur. Need to add new effects to your picture? You got the magic filters with an all new sparkle option apart from the usual pop art, pin hole, drawing, punk etc.. The 14 megapixel camera also supports noise reduction and gives a better color output and picture quality with a high ISO sensitivity of up to 1600. The 3 inch wide LCD screen with brightness adjustment displays a good quality playback and easy to use menu bars. The camera also allows full HD movie recording and easy playback. With the convenient in camera battery charging using a USB cable, the Olympus VG 140 can be easily charged anywhere. No matter where you go, this camera helps you capture your memories with full ease and perfection.
Design and Build Quality
Measuring a pocket perfect size of 96mmx56.5mmx19.3mm and weighing 125 grams, the Olympus VG 140 is available in three colours, black, silver and blue. It has a full metal body making it quite sturdy and durable. It has a stylish yet elegant design and a slim, sleek body. The front has xenon flash, along with the AF assist light. The microphone is placed towards the bottom along the rim of the lens. The handstrap and microUSB port lie on the right and the power and shutter buttons are conventionally placed on the top. The SD card compartment has a poor placing, always in a danger of getting easily damaged during changing batteries. This budget camera lacks a viewfinder and has the 3 inch wide LCD on the rear side. There are dedicated buttons for zoom, video recording, picture review, four-way navigation, menu and help. The camera also comes with in camera user help. The navigation pad is soft and easy to use allowing the user to easily scroll between different shooting modes and settings.
Focus and Face Detection
The Olympus VG 140 has an autofocus with autofocus tracking function which automatically tracks fast moving objects and adjusts focus and brightness accordingly. The camera has a focusing range of 0.6m to infinity in wide angle setting and 1m to infinity in telephoto setting. In the macro setting, the closest focusing distance in wide angle format is 0.2m while in telephoto is 0.6m. the camera allows focusing of as close as 7cm in super macro setting to give proper detailing to the object. Autofocus adjustment can also be set to face detection, tracking and centre weighted modes to have a correct desired focus. The camera also supports faceID recognition of up to 16 faces in a frame. It automatically focuses and optimizes exposures for sharp, brilliant portrait pictures.
Lens and Image Stabilization
The 5x zoom lens which gives a combined zoom of 20x has a focal length of 26mm to 130mm for a 35mm equivalent. The lens which lies on the front of the camera also has an auto focus assist light. The Digital Image Stabilization feature allows usage of a higher ISO and faster shutter speeds to capture sharp, blur-free images, even during tracking objects which are constantly moving.
Screen and Menus
The 3 inch wide LCD with 230000 dots has an extra-wide viewing angle for easier composing and shooting. The camera however lacks an optical viewfinder. The large LCD allows the user to easily use the menu of the camera which comes with a self help option for the new photographers. This compact point and shoot camera has a pretty straightforward interface with the usual functions. The left or right buttons on the navigation pad are used to change shooting modes which include many options like Sunset, Self Portrait, Indoor Sport, etc. Magic mode gives allows many effects like Pin Hole, Fish Eye, Soft Focus, etc and a newly added Sparkle mode to spice up your pictures. With the Panorama mode there is also a program mode that lets you adjust the ISO setting. ISO ranges from 80 to 1600 in this camera. in case of any doubt regarding the function of a specific option, the simple dedicated help button gives you all the information you need about it.
Battery
The Olympus VG 140 uses a Li-70B rechargeable battery which is recharged within the camera itself using a USB port which allows you to charge it wherever you want. On one charge, the batteyr delivers about 250 shots. The camera lacks any HDMI port and has a slot for SD/SDHC card in the same compartment as the battery. The camera has little internal memory of 49MB which can be expanded easily up to 32GB using the SD/SDHC cards depending on the need of the user.
Video Mode
The Olympus VG 140 allows one Touch HD Movie recording which gives movies in a HD format at 720 pixels at a speed of 30fps. The camera records movies in AVI motion JPEG format allowing easy playback both on the camera and PC. The maximum movie recording size ranges from 1280x720, 640x480 to 320x240. With in-camera editing and different shooting modes with magic filters, the camera delivers unique and brilliant still images along with high quality videos. The MS windows and mac compatible camera has a built in flash with red eye reduction.
Sensors
The camera uses a 1 / 2.3 inch wide CCD sensor for delivering perfect pictures. The sensor is the backbone of the camera which converts the photographs into electrical signals. In true sense it is the eye of the camera. This 14 megapixel camera however has no orientation sensor, the camera does boast of other advanced features like the shadow adjustment technology.
