Over all Review of Nikon D5200 DSLR Body
Two months after the release of the fabulous D600, Nikon produced another DLSR to the Indian imaging market, named D5200. Made available in three colors, Red, Black and Bronze, Nikon D5200 has been priced reasonably, over the performance it delivers. It has an impressive 24.1MP sensor that makes it to get classed in top-end cameras by the brand. It shares the processor of flagship model D4, EXPEED 3 engine. One can only imagine the quality rich images produced by Nikon D5200 SLR. Moreover the ISO sensitivity ranges from 100-6400, it can also be expanded to Hi-2, 25600 ISO, so almost any light condition can be handled. The camera is quite easy to use, you only need to learn what function does what as you keep it in your hands. One laudable feature that has been incorporated from its numeric named predecessor is the flexible monitor. Yes, the LCD can be flipped out like page of a small note book and can even be turned at different angles so that you are able to frame your in any position. Speaking of framing, Nikon D5200 isnt also behind in focusing. The enhanced 39-point autofocus lets you focus with precision. Smart face detection and with smart tracking solve half of your shoot purposes. When Live View button is turned on, the phrase “what you see, is what you get” gets held true. If you dont wish to be behind the camera then just link the optional wireless mobile adapter and have the device controlled remotely upto 20 meters by your smartphone, supporting Android or iOS operating system. There is more to it, incase you wish to keep a location record of where the pictures were shot, the optional GPS unit will do the job for you. When it comes to videos, this feature is as exciting as that of quality stills. You can shoot at FULL HD with a lengthy range of frame rates. The in-built microphone catches audio in stereo mode. You can attach a number of NIKKOR lenses spanning from zoom lenses to wide-angle lenses. The mentioned features make D5200 a home of possibilities to your imaging imagination.
Design and Build Quality
Build quality of Nikon D5200 SLR resembles to that of Nikon D5100. When seen closely, the drive mode button on top plate distinguishes D5200. The camera's specs reveal that it is 5 grams lighter than its elder. Users with small hands find there is enough space upon the rubber grip to place three fingers. As in D5100, the variangle LCD screen is also incorporated here. The GUI (Graphic User Interface) here has been updated and it looks more cleaner than before. There are fewer buttons than D5100 and most of the settings are adjusted using screen display. There is 'I' button at the back, which when pressed display information of the current scene, reading further enhancements can be made. OK button finals a setting.
Focus and Face Detection
To reset anything around AF system, to have to get back to the menu system, even to alter the automatic AF area selection to manual one, you have to go down pressing many buttons while concentrating on LCD. The All-auto-area focus can work smart but at times it does begin to focus at the background. In dark, it focuses well too due the AF illuminator. Face detection feature is simply impressive in Nikon D5200 SLR.
Lens and Image Stabilization
Nikon D5200 has an F-mount that can be attached to most of the NIKKOR lenses. The use of DX format sensor results in reduced field of view by 1.5 times, therefore, DX 18-55mm VR (Vibration Reduction) kit lens delivers focal range of 27-83mm. D5200 does not possess built-in AF motor(removed for the sake savings on weight, cost and size) needed to auto-focus lenses that have gotten older by time. Typically the cam comes with Nikkor DX 18-55mm VR lens. Image stabilization is provided by Nikon D5200 SLR with almost every compatible lens.
Screen and Menus
Nikon D5200 SLR share menu system of other DLSRs in the line-up. Menus are easier to understand and navigate through. To distinguish, sub-menus are color coded. Playback menu lets you adjust your playback features and slideshows. Shooting menu holds settings for size and quality of image. Style of picture to be taken, noise reduction and video specs are among other inclusions. A green colored superscript denotes default setting.
