Over all Review of Nikon Coolpix L27 Point & Shoot

Nikon Coolpix L27 Point & Shoot Price

Overall Review

Next to L25, Japanese imaging giant Nikon, presents L27 to the Coolpix line-up. It sports a CCD sensor with pixel count of 16.1 million, a Nikkor lens which can zoom to five times and a 2.7 inches wide TFT LCD monitor to view functions and scenes with video recording capability at high-definition 720p resolution. Optical zoom in Nikon Coolpix L27 Point & Shoot effectively covers 26 to 130mm wide-angle range of focal lengths. L27 can be chosen in five colors: White, Black, Red, Silver or Decorative Purple. It also comes loaded with four exposure modes, namely, Easy Auto, Auto, Smart Portrait and Scene selection. Easy Auto is a smart function determining the light intake and best image quality of the scene you are to capture. Scene selection lets you choose from 18 different modes, such as Landscape, Portrait, Sunset, Close-up, Pets and Food.

Portrait mode comprises of skin softeners, blink-proof and smile timer. The timer and flash options can be activated only when both blink-proof and smile timer are off. Under auto mode, there comes seven different tools for maintaining white balance, you even get the setting option that lets you measure the white balance of camera's surroundings. It has four drive modes: single, continuous, multi-shot 16 and BSS. The cam is available in standard black, purple print, red, silver, and white. You can shoot videos in five modes: 720p HD, VGA, QVGA, single or full-time autofocus. The first three have frame size of 1280x720, 640x480, 320x240, respectively. After you are done recording video, you can use in-built camera options for editing it. This comes in review mode, you can rotate, resize and adjust D-light.

Design and Build Quality

Nikon Coolpix L27 Point & Shoot is a lighter device, weight with batteries is humble 161 grams. You can hold the camera firm and with ease, bulging grip on the right side keeps hands distant from lens and also flash on the left. All the important physical controls are located at the back of the body. Though the screen assumes wide area but the normal sized buttons have not been displaced in a shrunken area. The on-screen menus can get at times get you baffled, the OK button makes you select the option but also get back to the previous menu in lieu of video record mode. One cannot return to shoot mode after pressing the shutter button, which becomes irritating when used for longer time. That's one sad part and good part is that you can zoom while you record a video. Again when you are on the Easy Auto mode, you viewing the scene info, devoid of aiding grid become compulsory. These options are available but that too when you have gone down through three levels of menu. After shot review cannot be adjusted and depends upon strength of batteries, due to which it varies from two to six seconds. In macro modes, the preview could also look at times blurred.

Focus and Face Detection

The optical zoom allows you to zoom in upto five times. So the cam becomes equivalent to 26-130mm in signature 35mm cameras with aperture range, f/3.2 to f/6.5. The smallest focus distance at wide-angle is quite long, 50cm. In macro mode, it is 10cm and 80cm at full-telephoto mode. But once you've learned that, your macro outcomes will be flawless in Nikon Coolpix L27 Point & Shoot.

Lens and Image Stabilization

As stated you get NIKKOR lens with 5x optical zoom. 16MP CCD sensor produces high-definition images. There is EXPEED C2 image processor that is fast in it's working. You also get face detection feature in Nikon Coolpix L27 Point & Shoot.

Screen and Menus

Screen is 2.7 inches wide and menus may be little perplexing for the beginners in Nikon Coolpix L27 Point & Shoot.

Battery

The small bulge that also helps you to get a grip actually houses two AA batteries. These batteries are replaceable. But if you want rechargeables you will have to buy 'em on your own in Nikon Coolpix L27 Point & Shoot.

Video Mode

Stills are better than videos. The maximum resolution available is 1280x720. The pictures dont resemble to that of a qualified HD standard. You cannot evade from wind noise, so if the wind starts blowing while you are shooting, then your video will catch, the whooshing sound. The optical zoom in Nikon Coolpix L27 Point & Shoot gets locked when you turn to video mode, so only 4x, digital zoom would be available, which is not upto the mark as compared to optical zoom.

Sensors

You get 16.1MP sensor in Nikon Coolpix L27 Point & Shoot, which delivers iamges of pixels, 4608 x 3456. ISO sensitivity range is 80 to 1600. Compensation measure is of -/+2.0EV in 1/3EV steps.

Pros

* Quite easy to operate.

* You can attain appreciable grip on the camera.

* White balance of a given scene can be anaylized and used.

* For beginners you the cam is suitable.

* Smart shiny colors are available for Nikon Coolpix L27 Point & Shoot.

Cons

* The menu structures could be irritating for some.

* After depressing shutter button you dont get back to video shoot mode.

* In bright light, the camera struggles to catch focus.

* Battery life is quite small in Nikon Coolpix L27 Point & Shoot.

* For the features it comes with, it is little expensive.
