Over all Review of Nikon Coolpix S6150 Point & Shoot
Nikon Coolpix S6150 is the new addition to the S (Style) range of digital compact cameras for Nikon. It comprises of decent features that helps in making it a camera worth your money. Firstly, the 7x optical zoom with the Nikon ED Glass provides a great stage for you to zoom into far off sceneries and take clear photos. This is accompanied by a beautiful 3-inch touch screen with 460,000 dots and uses EXPEED C2 as the processor. Added speedy features like managing to take 12 pictures in 10seconds that is 1.2fps make it even more interesting. The emphasis primarily in this camera will focus on its automatic operation – 19 scene modes and scene auto selector ensure that this compact beauty appeal to those who do not want too much asked of them, technically. Looks wise, the camera shapes up very nicely and gives off a pretty appearance. The camera’s looks and features are a remarkable choice for amateurs who want a bit of both, fancy outlook and decent specifications. It is also within the range of the cash conscious buyers. So, if you’re not onto the technical side of photography and still need to have fun with a camera, Nikon Coolpix S6150 will do a great job.
Design and Build Quality
The body is metal but coated with a firm rubber that gives you a soft touch and a firm grip. With that, the weight too is a decent 172grams that is with battery and SD memory card intact. This weight is enough to give you a sense that something is in your pocket while not being a burden in anyway. As for the dimensions, they are a perfect measure being approx., 97.9 x 58.0 x 26.6mm, to fit in your palm and pocket. When you lift the device up, the front does not seem to be outstanding, just a plain box-shaped camera with a protuberant lens barrel that sports an optical zoom of 7x. While the lens, so slim, rests on the top of the lens, this is a little tricky since it is very open for your fingers to block its way. The back is largely covered with the touch screen, with just three buttons accompanying it. It includes a small thumb pad too. The only zoom rocker is wrapped around the shutter button. The power button rests is exactly next to this shutter button, a green light indicates that the camera is on. The camera is available in Black, Red, Pink and Purple.
Focus and Face Detection
Nikon Coolpix S6150 uses three focusing modes to manage the touch AF system. Firstly, there is the touch shutter, followed by subject tracking and lastly the AF/AE touch. Your touch shutter and touch AF/AE are alike, exception being that the latter does not take pictures automatically. Subject tracking will lock in your subject, all you do is to lock the area by touch, and the camera keeps a continuous check on it. In matters of focus, the camera and all these three features work effortlessly well. Getting the camera to focus can be a problem. If the camera is working on anything else, like looking at the menu or play backing, it will not work like other compacts whereas, you can press the shutter button half way and it will retreat from what you are doing and run to focus. However, you will have to close your work by pressing the shutter release, and then focus after that. It is not a huge issue, once you get the hang of the camera, you will easily navigate with the feature.
Lens and Image Stabilization
The camera sports a 7x optical lens, which is a bit of a let-down, for the rivals in market offer much better. Nonetheless, it is made of NIKKOR ED glass and covers 28mm wide angle to 196 mm that is, equivalent to 35mm. For stability, you will have Nikon’s advanced VR Image Stabilization technology, this will help you with the menacing blurs that occur as you photograph, providing you clear and vivid images just as you would like them.
Screen and Menus
Nikon Coolpix S6150 presents to you a fascinating 3-inch screen with 460,000 dots (at approx). This is a touch LCD screen, hence making it very user interactive, intuitive and forth enjoyable. While it offers to be easy just because it gives you direct access, all you have to do is to use your fingers but the touch screen could have been a bit more responsive. At times, it is lagging and you might have to force it to work. The tiniest problem that one could have with this navigation system is that the arrows dedicated to bring up menu systems were too far and were, often demanding the use of fingernails for them to work.
Nikon has been using in –camera charging for its new cameras, so these are charged directly from a USB or a USB cable that is connected to a main plug to be charged from a socket. The camera can last to take about 180 shots, this with the use of EN-EL12 battery that is good to last you for long. The camera is compatible with SD, SDHX AND SDXC memory cards.
When it comes to the video mode, the camera gives you more than just simply good. A dedicated movie button on the rear lets you start recording immediately. It offers you to record 720p HD videos wherein, the maximum length of the recording time is approx., 29minutes; this is unchangeable and stays so regardless of your space capacity. The video at a 640 x 480pixel resolution is further available as an alternative. The result is impressive, with the recordings being thoroughly smooth, lively and well rendered. The only setback is the noticeable sounds of the zoom mechanics that crept into your video footage. Apart from this, other features like wind-noise reduction, white balance setting and autofocus mode are all given for you to alter, as you get ready to record your videos.
For this elegant camera, Nikon has used their user-friendly high performance 16.0 effective megapixel sensor. This works aptly to deliver quality functioning, it is not the best out there, but definitely something that will not let you down.
