Nikon Coolpix L830 is a reasonable digicam when it comes to features and price, and is 'the offer' should you are looking for a ‘not so costly’ imaging device yet one with a good zoom power. It comes as a Coolpix L820 refreshed version, for it has the same 16 megapixels back lit CMOS sensor but has more to offer when the telephoto end of the zoom scale is reached. The cameras that were in market last year had nimble zoom scales, beginning from 22.5mm-equivalent at wide-angle end and going over to 675mm-equivalent at telephoto end. But Nikon Coolpix L830 extends it, though it starts at wide-angle end from the same equivalent but goes up to 765mm-equivalent at telephoto end without affecting much of the max aperture range. Speaking of which, it is now f/3.0 to f/5.9, improved from the range f/3.0 to f/5.8 held by earlier cameras.
The zoom lens comes with an inbuilt optical image stabilization feature and technically, is a lens-shift based vibration reduction thus cutting the blur caused by camera shake at long focal lengths and slow shutter speeds. Coming to the video mode, hybrid vibration reduction is used and apart from this, Nikon Coolpix L830 is capable of shooting videos at full HD resolution with frame size of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The frame rates begin from 60 interlaced fields per second. Also, there is a zoom lever to the side of the lens that lets the shutterbug to manage zoom by keeping the camera fixed and shake-free while catching the videos. Dynamic Fine zoom is what Nikon boasts of, for it improves the image quality by 2x of digital zoom. This feature sounds the same as that offered by Sony's Clear Image Zoom. Technically, some pattern matching algorithms result to boost the digital zoom interpolation quality.
There is a tilting LCD screen, 3 inches wide with VGA resolution at 921k dots to let you review and frame the videos and pics. The ISO sensitivity range of the camera begins at 100 and goes up to 3200 and the AF system features target-finding and face detection. The Easy Auto mode helps to get a photo without your needing to understand apertures, shutter speeds and other functions. Alike this smart mode, Nikon's Smart Portrait System (skin softening included), does the workout for better portraits. There are nearly 18 scene modes. The camera, Nikon Coolpix L830 draws its power from standard AA batteries and the connectivity options include HDMi video, USB data and composite standard-definition video. The camera can be availed in the body colors of Black and Red.
