With Nikon’s new line of camera it becomes easier as one can confidently explore a higher level of photography easily. Nikon Coolpix L310 is basically a progressive bridge type camera which features many features which makes photography an easy deal for the beginners and enthusiasts alike. Nikon Coolpix L310 features a focal length of 4.5 - 94.5 mm, which translates to a 35 mm equivalent focal length of 25 - 525 mm. This ultra-zoom camera features a 21x optical zoom and a 4x digital zoom, both of which endeavor to let you take detailed and sharp images of subjects who are a distance away. The L310 boasts of a CCD image sensor that lets you take images at a stunning 14.1 megapixel resolution. The EXPEED C2 image processor delivers high speed shooting in the palm of your hands, along with high resolution and noise-free images. The 3-inch TFT LCD screen is used to compose and preview your creations to get the best. This screen sports a resolution of 230,000 dot pixels and a 5-level brightness adjustment, which together relay bright and clear playback.
Design and Build Quality
With the exact dimensions of 110mm x 76.5mm x 78.4mm, this device is a perfectly pocketeable camera and an efficient device to handle, Nikon Coolpix L310 weighs 435 gms when accompanied with four alkaline batteries and a SD Memory Card. The camera also has Auto focus, which functions in the range of 50 cm onwards (Wide) and 1.5 m to infinity (Tele), letting you enjoy photography while the camera focuses on its own. Low light photography will never be the same again. The Coolpix camera has a light sensitivity range of ISO 80 - 6400, which governs the noise or grains in your photos. The shutter speed functions at a speed range of 1/1000 - 1 sec, which can be slowed to up to 4 seconds in the Fireworks Show scene mode to capture the beauty of a light burst in its entirety. You can light up scenes with the built-in flash that has a range of 0.5 - 6 m (Wide) and 1.5 - 3 m (Tele).
Lens and Image Stabilization
The camera works on Nikkor lens with focal length 4.5 to 94.5 mm (35mm equivalent to 25-525 mm). Nikon COOLPIX L310 is equipped with Nikon's Vibration reduction system which has two settings - on and off. In the absence of any panning modes or something like Canon's intelligent IS, which sets the appropriate mode depending on the subject, it's probably advisable to turn off vibration reduction for panning shots and, of course, when the camera is mounted on a tripod. In addition to Vibration Reduction, Motion detection automatically raises the ISO sensitivity to enable selection of a faster shutter speed when either subject movement is detected or there's a risk of camera shake. It's quite a useful feature for beginners, who might be unaware of the consequences of shooting at slow shutter speeds, but it can be turned off and manual selection of the ISO sensitivity also disables it.
Screen and Menus
The rear panel has a 3 inch LCD screen which looks bigger, but has quite a large surround - a black area on all four sides behind the clear protective plastic. The screen is fixed and has a resolution of 230 thousand pixels. It provides a clear and detailed view indoors and outdoors in dull conditions. Well as said earlier, no screen is perfect but I found the screen in Nikon L series of devices exceptionally poor. In bright conditions nothing is clear on the screen, so keep that in mind before opting to buy it.
Battery
Nikon Coolpix L310 fancies along with it a missive 50 MB internal memory in which you can store all your photographs and videos. This memory can also be expanded using SD, SDHC or SDXC memory cards, which are readily available. Nikon CoolPix L310 is powered by 4 alkaline batteries, which allow you to take up to 420 shots on full charge. The optical zoom can be used while recording and is restricted to the slower of its two speeds, which is relatively quiet, though not quiet enough to avoid its buzz being picked up by the built-in stereo microphones.
