Over all Review of Canon PowerShot A2200 Point & Shoot

Canon PowerShot A2200 Point & Shoot Price

Overall Review

Canon is one of the leading names when talking about cameras. Canon PowerShot A2200 is a great camera, featuring many fantastic options and built in effects, saving the user time in any post processing later on on their PC. It is quite compact, enabling the user to carry it at all times, which is great for the professionals who don't want to carry their DSLR all the time. It is 93mm(width),57mm(height) and 24mm(depth) in dimensions and weighs 135 grams. It's available in four fascinating colors: blue, black, silver and red, and the body has a nice smooth finish to it with curved edges. One of the exciting features of this nice compact camera is its so called discreet mode. This allows you to take photos in dimly lit situations without using the flash, but still swears for good quality images to be taken with the aid of noise reduction technology. It also has many creative functions that the user can set before taking the picture. Many of these effects can be found on many popular photo editing programs on the computer, and so it saves the valuable user time by applying these effects after the click. The Canon PowerShot A2200 is a new 14.1MP, budget-oriented point and shoot camera.

The A2200 offers a 4x optical zoom that gives you a 28-112mm equivalent zoom range.  The A2200 can also capture 720p HD video and it sports a 2.7-inch LCD. The high-resolution images taken by this device can be enlarged up to 13 Inch x 19 inch. It also has Smart Auto intelligently selects settings from 32 predefined shooting situations. So if you want a compact camera that is a little more than just a point and click, then the Canon PowerShot A2200 is perfect for you. It is priced very well and will produce awesome creative shots once you have it in your hands. This camera is a solid point-and-shoot device for fulfilling basic snapshot needs with just enough extras to make it worth its cost.

Design and Build Quality

Canon PowerShot A2200 is available in four fascinating colors: blue, black, silver and red, and the body has a nice smooth finish to it with curved edges. One of the exciting features of this nice compact camera is its so called discreet mode. This allows you to take photos in dimly lit situations without using the flash, but still swears for good quality images to be taken with the aid of noise reduction technology. It also has many creative functions that the user can set before taking the picture. It comes carrying audio-video interface, USB cable for transferring and recieving the data from computer or laptop and PictBridge. PictBridge is a software in many cameras, camcorders and printers that allow them to communicate with one another without needing a computer or laptop to translate. Its advantage is that it makes image printing very easy.

Focus and Face Detection

Canon PowerShot A2200 features 14.1 MP camera, which is slightly more than the average for all digital cameras. The device has a maximum shutter speed of 1/1600 seconds and its slowest shutter speed is 1 seconds. Photo quality is very good to excellent for snapshots. Fine detail and sharpness are very good up to ISO 200 (though a bit more sharpening with photo-editing software improves things). Photos get smooth and softer at ISO 400 because of larger noise reduction. People who pay deep attention toward Pixels will see that there is noise present in the images at all ISO sensitivities, but it's not visible at reduced sizes until you get to ISO 800. As long as you don't bother about increased softness and noise--including faint yellow blotching--ISO 800 is usable for small prints and Web sharing. The camera's highest full-resolution sensitivity is ISO 1,600, allowing users to take a low-light photo. On the other hand, because of consistent color at higher ISOs, the photos are better than that of other cameras at this price; they just get slightly washed out at and above ISO 400.

Shooting modes are provided for point-and-shoot use, so no semimanual or full manual modes. The most important control you get over settings is in Program mode, letting you select things like white balance, ISO, and metering. It's also the only mode with access to the camera's My Color options like Vivid and Sepia, as well as a Custom option for adjusting contrast, sharpness, and saturation. On the other hand, you have the new Live View Control mode, which enables you to adjust color, brightness and tone with onscreen sliders and see how the photo will look as you make the changes.

Lens and Image Stabilization

There is a hint of barrel distortion at the wide end of the A2200's lens. Center sharpness is up to the mark, and though it softens a touch as you move out, it was still noticeably consistent edge to edge and in the corners compared with other budget cameras. Also, there is little fringing in high-contrast areas of photos. Color performance of A2200 is excellent, bright, vivid, and accurate. Exposure is also remarkable . Highlights will blow out on occasion. The auto white balance indoors is a little warm, but otherwise it's fine and you can always take advantage of the presets or manual white balance if you're not happy with the results.

Video quality is on par with a basic HD pocket video camera; great enough for Web use and nondiscriminating TV viewing. Panning the camera will create judder that's typical of the video from most compact cameras and you'll notice motion trailing on fast-moving subjects. It provides 4x digital and optical zoom ,though the zoom lens stops functioning while recording, but the picture quality doesn't seem to be that pleasant with such a low zooming effect !

Screen and Menus

The on board video camera allows you to shoot in HD, and allows up to 22 minutes of HD quality at 1280 x 720 pixels. Lower resolution modes allow for longer videos to be taken. Shutter of the camera is clever indeed and makes the camera take pictures when the subject smiles or winks, so one will never miss out that cheeky shot. It also has the regular functions of most compact cameras, including full auto, and Program (allowing you to change exposure settings while keeping everything else auto).

Battery

The Canon PowerShot A2200 has a Li-ion Rechargable Pack with a life of 280 shots, which is comparatively lower than the average battery life of all Digital Cameras.

Video Mode

Video quality is on par with a basic HD pocket video camera; great enough for Web use and nondiscriminating TV viewing. Panning the camera will create judder that's typical of the video from most compact cameras and you'll notice motion trailing on fast-moving subjects. It provides 4x digital and optical zoom ,though the zoom lens stops functioning while recording, but the picture quality doesn't seem to be that pleasant with such a low zooming effect !

Sensors

It features Image stabilizer that improves the quality of image by blur images due to camera shake. It consists Exposure compensation value that modifies the shutter speed in order to produce special creative effects. Like other Digi-cams, it also comes with self timer having a delay of 10 sec, red eye reduction, auto flash, built in flash and operating system compatibility(compatible with MS Windows and MAC). It supports JPEG file format and offers vivid, full, basic, sepia, black and white color modes.

Pros

The Canon PowerShot A2200 is an awesome, reliable, and affordable compact camera that offers nice clicking experience and provides clear images and movie clips.

Cons

The camera's shooting performance is slow, battery backup could have been better.
